The Marlow Donkey
Organized by the Thames Valley LDWA, The Marlow Donkey is an annual challenge event held in Buckinghamshire. The event offers three distinct distance options for participants to complete on foot:
- 25 km
- 40 km
- 50 km
The routes explore the Hambleden and Stonor valleys within the Chilterns. The courses are designed in a figure-of-eight pattern centered on the village of Hambleden, with the longest route extending out to Bix. The event starts and finishes at Liston Hall (Marlow Community Association) on Chapel Street in Marlow.
Participants are provided with drinks and snacks at the start and at outward checkpoints. A simple meal, such as daal curry, is served at the finish line. All entrants receive a free souvenir badge and can access timed e-certificates after the event.
Required equipment for all participants includes a personal drinking container (at least 1 litre), a plastic mug for drinks at checkpoints, a paper copy of the route description, a mobile phone, a whistle, and a basic first aid kit. Participants must also carry waterproofs, suitable footwear, a compass, and relevant OS maps in either paper or digital format.
The event has a maximum entry limit of 150 participants. Marlow train station is located approximately 10 minutes from the start via walking, and car parking is available at nearby town car parks on Liston Road and Dean Street. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
