The Last Cowboy Backyard

Event Format
The Last Cowboy Backyard is an official Backyard Ultra race held in O'Neill, Nebraska. The race follows a Last Runner Standing format. The field is capped at 150 participants. Participants must be at least 15 years old to register; those under 18 must have a legal guardian on-site for the duration of the event.
Course Details
Each lap starts and ends at a community center in O'Neill and utilizes the Cowboy Trail as an out-and-back route. The course surface is described as flat and non-technical. Each lap is 4.17 miles. A new lap begins every hour on the hour. All runners start together; anyone not in the starting corral at the beginning of a lap is eliminated.
Rules and Support
Crew assistance is allowed only between laps in designated indoor or outdoor crew areas. Each runner is limited to a maximum of 3 crew members. During a lap, no aid from anyone, including crew, is permitted. Pacers, trekking poles, and receiving items like a headlamp during a lap are not allowed. Littering results in immediate disqualification.
Aid and Facilities
The race provides water and Proxima C Endurance Fuel. Runners must supply all other personal nutrition and items. Crews are expected to manage these supplies between laps. Indoor flushing restrooms and outdoor porta-potties will be available.
Awards and Participant Items
All participants receive a tri-blend t-shirt and a custom wooden plaque with their accumulated mileage burnt into it on-site. The last male and female standing each receive a custom acrylic award.
