The Great Cow Run - Cerritos Cross Country
The Great Cow Run is a cross country invitational held on September 5, 2026 at John Glenn High School in Norwalk, California. The event is co hosted by Cerritos and John Glenn high schools and benefits both school programs and their communities.
The meet began in 2006 as the Cerritos Cross Country Invitational and returned in 2008 after park construction. The course runs across flat grass and paved surfaces and is described as viewer friendly. The course layout for 2026 remains the same as previous years and course maps and printable route information are provided for participants.
The invitational incorporates a cow theme linked to the area’s Dairy Valley history; lead bikers and runners wear cow suits and photo opportunities with costumed cows are available during the day. In 2011 a promotional cow character also appeared on course.
The high school invitational is preceded by the Higashi Roman Memorial Run, a memorial race dedicated to community members who died in car accidents in 2007. The event structure includes an open race that accepts both in person and virtual entries, race day registration for the open race, team registration through forms and Athletic.net, and team packet and CIF contract procedures. The meet seeks to balance team competition and individual awards, and medals and shirts are part of the event materials for 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
