About the race
The Furnace BYU is a Backyard Ultra held in Dalby QLD on 20 February 2027. Runners complete a measured loop of 6.706 km repeatedly, with each loop to be finished within 60 minutes. When the hourly bell sounds the next loop begins and the race continues until only one runner remains.
The course has nearly no elevation gain, listed as under 20 m per loop, so terrain incline is not a planned obstacle. The event is scheduled in February when daytime peaks average about 38°C and overnight lows average about 22°C, with the possibility of higher peak temperatures near 42°C; organizers describe daytime loops as the hottest and requiring preparation and respect.
Participants receive a 3×3 m space for base camp and access to toilets, water, coffee, electrolytes and snacks throughout the event. Mandatory gear includes a head torch for night loops, a charged mobile phone, and water to take on every loop; reusable cups or bottles are required. The final runner completes one solo loop to claim the last one standing token. Event features noted by organizers include professional photography, event merchandise, and postrace results.
