About the race
The Furnace BYU is a Backyard Ultra held in Dalby, Queensland in February 2027. The race uses repeated loops of 6.706 km, run every hour on the hour, with each loop to be completed within 60 minutes. The event continues until only one runner remains; the final runner completes one solo loop to be recorded as the winner.
The course is nearly flat with less than 20 m elevation per loop. Organisers highlight Queensland summer heat as a key element of the event, citing average daytime peak temperatures near 38°C and the potential for higher peaks, with cooler overnight lows near 22°C. Daytime loops are expected to be the hottest and night loops require use of a head torch.
Runners receive a 3×3 m base camp space and access to toilets, water, coffee, electrolytes and snacks throughout the event. Merchandise and professional event photography are included or available. Participants receive a token when they finish; an exclusive token is provided to the last runner remaining.
Mandatory gear includes a head torch with sufficient battery life, a charged mobile phone with the race director number saved, and water or hydration to be carried on each loop using reusable cups or bottles.
