The First Step - Grimesland
The event takes place on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Haven at Blue Creek in Grimesland, North Carolina. It is the third annual edition.
Three event distances are offered:
- A timed 5K run.
- A 5K Ruck.
- An untimed 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.
All proceeds from the event benefit Haven at Blue Creek, a women's rehabilitation center. The course is described as cross-country style, featuring gravel roads, grass, and a run across a property berm. Strollers are welcome for the 1-mile event but not recommended for the 5K. Leashed dogs are permitted.
Post-race refreshments will be available, and the atmosphere is described as family-friendly. The event will be professionally timed by Run The East, LLC.
Registration fees are listed as $25 for the 5K Run and 5K Ruck, increasing to $35 after March 6, 2026. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk costs $20. Registrants by March 21, 2026, will receive an event t-shirt.
Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5K run and ruck. Age group awards will also be presented for the 5K run in categories from under 10 to 80+.
