The First Step 5k - Grimesland
The First Step 5K takes place on April 3, 2027 at Haven at Blue Creek, 2582 Blue Creek Ln, Grimesland, NC. The event includes a 5K run, a 5K ruck, and a 1 mile fun run held on the property grounds.
Distances offered:
- 5K run
- 5K ruck
- 1 mile fun run (untimed), strollers welcome for the 1 mile
The course is cross country style with gravel road and grass surfaces and includes passage across the property berm. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Post-race refreshments are provided and the setting is described as family friendly. Strollers are not recommended for the 5K.
Registration details: registration opens October 29, 2026. The 5K run and 5K ruck registration closes March 5, 2027; the 1 mile fun run registration closes April 3, 2027. Fees are $25 for the 5K run and 5K ruck and $20 for the 1 mile fun run. The 5K fee increases to $35 on March 6, 2027. Register by March 20, 2027 to receive an event T-shirt.
Proceeds benefit Haven at Blue Creek, a women's rehabilitation center focused on recovery through group and one-on-one therapy, holistic health and wellness, education and employment support, spiritual and art therapy, exercise therapy, and equine therapy. Awards include top three overall male and female for the 5K run and ruck and top three male and female 5K finishers in age groups under 10, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 plus.
