Event Overview
The Edmonds 4th of July 5K is a community sports event held in Edmonds, Washington. The event serves as a lead-in to the local Independence Day celebrations, with the finish line situated directly on the parade route to allow spectators to cheer on arriving participants. All proceeds from the event support the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce and its local programming.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 5K: A timed race through the streets of Edmonds and the Town of Woodway.
- 1K Family Run: An untimed event designed for families and participants of all ages.
- Senior Saunter 1K: An untimed walk specifically for participants aged 60 to 120.
Race Details and Course
The 5K route starts at Edmonds City Park and concludes at the intersection of 4th and Main. This distance is officially timed, with prizes awarded to the top three runners in each gender and the first-place finisher in each age category. A unique feature of the 5K is the opportunity to race against a costumed runner portraying local figure Ol’ Man Brackett; the first 50 people to finish ahead of him receive a special prize.
The 1K courses also begin at Edmonds City Park and proceed toward the parade route. These events are not timed, allowing participants to complete the distance at their own pace.
Additional Features
The event includes a pre-race costume contest where participants are encouraged to wear festive red, white, and blue clothing. Strollers are permitted on the course, but dogs or other pets are not allowed. After the races, the community celebration continues with the Kids Parade and the Main Parade.
