The Derek Dexter Memorial 5K
The Derek Dexter Memorial 5K is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at West Playfield, Lake St Clair Metropark in Harrison Township, MI 48045. The event honors Derek Dexter, who died in May 2024. The event offers an in-person 5K and a virtual 5K run/walk. Participants receive a t-shirt and a finisher award. Course and parking maps are available for the 2025 layout.

Registration opens December 28. In honor of Derek’s birthday, the first 28 adult registrations are priced at $28. Standard adult pricing is $35 through April 11. All minors register for $25. Onsite registration increases to $45 and is cash only. The virtual event fee is $40 and has a registration closing date on May 2, 2026.
A MetroParks pass or a $10 day pass is required to enter Lake Saint Clair Metropark. The course is stroller and dog friendly. The race will provide scholarships to local high school athletes pursuing engineering who have an interest in running. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
