Trail Event Overview
The Edridge Contracting Teetotal Traverse takes place on Sunday 11 October 2026. Located in the Teetotal Flats and Big Bush Conservation Area on the edge of the Nelson Lakes National Park, this event offers three distinct trail courses for runners and walkers. The terrain includes a variety of technical single track, gravel paths, and forest roads through an alpine environment.
Participants can choose from three distances:
- 21.1 km Half Marathon
- 13 km Big Bush Kākā Challenge
- 8 km Skating Pond Stride
The 21.1 km and 13 km courses feature a 220 m climb within the first few kilometers and include technical sections that may be muddy or slippery in wet conditions. The 8 km course is primarily flat with some undulations on gravel and rougher single track. All courses are supported by aid stations providing water at specific intervals.
Participant Requirements
Specific age and performance standards apply to the longer distances. The 21.1 km event is open to participants aged 16 and over, while the 13 km requires a minimum age of 14. For the 8 km event, the minimum age is 10, though younger children may participate if accompanied by an adult.
Compulsory gear is required for the 21.1 km and 13 km distances, including a long-sleeve thermal top, jacket, whistle, survival blanket, warm hat, and gloves. Check-in and race number pick-up occur at Alpine Lodge, and a mandatory pre-race briefing is held at the start line on Beechnest Drive. No dogs or bicycles are permitted on the courses. Following the event, an awards ceremony and a pre-booked lunch are held at Alpine Lodge in St Arnaud. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
