Ottawa 5K
The Ottawa 5K is an integral part of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, holding the title of the largest race of its distance in Canada. The event starts near Ottawa City Hall and features a course capacity of 9,000 participants. The route provides a 5 km tour of the city's significant landmarks, including the historic Parliament buildings, the Chateau Laurier, and the Rideau Canal.
The event is open to participants aged 5 and older. However, strollers are not permitted on the course. The organization provides an Adaptive Athlete program, allowing runners with disabilities to be accompanied by up to three guides who receive complimentary entry.
Logistics and support features on the course include:
- Three hydration stations located on both sides of the road
- Kilometre markers along the entire route
- Portable toilets at every water station
- Dedicated cheering and entertainment stations
- Full medical services available on the route and at the finish line
Registration includes professional race timing, recovery food, and a personalized race bib featuring the runner's first name. All finishers receive a commemorative medal, unless they opt for the "Green Bib" registration. This environmental initiative allows participants to waive their medal in favor of supporting a charity fund. Additional options available for purchase include souvenir race shirts, photography packages, and commemorative ribbon hangers for medals.
