Talkeetna Trail Race
The Talkeetna Trail Race is an athletic event held in Talkeetna, Alaska. Formerly known as the Bun to Bun, this event utilizes the local trail system to support youth programs through the Talkeetna Elementary PTA. The race features several distances:
- 25k trail race
- 10k trail race
- 5k running race
The 25k and 10k courses consist of varied terrain, including single track paths, hiking trails, ski trails, and four-wheeler tracks. During the autumn season, these surfaces are frequently muddy and slick. Participants navigate through the Alaska wilderness in remote conditions where the use of bear spray is encouraged. Despite the wild setting, the course is marked, offers multiple aid stations, and maintains proximity to road access points in various sections.
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult while running. The 5k course is designed to be accessible for strollers and families. All children participating in the event are required to remain with a designated adult at all times.
The event concludes at the Sheldon Community Arts Hanger in downtown Talkeetna. Participants receive snacks, soup, and a beverage, with options including kombucha or beer for those with valid identification. T-shirts are provided to those who register by the early July deadline.
