Takayna Trail 2027

The Takayna Trail is a boutique ultramarathon fundraiser situated in the remote north-west region of Tasmania. Established in 2014, the event serves as a significant fundraising effort to support the protection of the Takayna wilderness. The race headquarters is located at the Men's Shed in Waratah, which provides the base for all event operations.

Participants navigate a course through diverse landscapes, including ancient Gondwanan rainforests, buttongrass plains, and myrtle forests. The terrain features challenging elements such as steep hills, uneven surfaces, and sections covered in ferns, fungi, and mosses.

The event offers three distinct distances:

  • 62 km
  • 37 km
  • 22 km

Safety regulations require all runners to carry mandatory gear, including a waterproof jacket, thermal layers, a space blanket, a whistle, a compass, and a first aid snake bandage. Participants must also carry specific amounts of emergency food and water based on their chosen distance. For the 62 km and 37 km categories, drop bags are permitted on the course.

Event facilities at the Waratah HQ include unpowered camping areas for tents and vehicles, as well as accessible toilets and showers. The organizers provide vegan and peanut-free meals for participants who have registered and received a wristband. As Waratah is a small town with limited services, participants are advised to bring necessary supplies and fuel from larger districts such as Burnie or Launceston. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
