Takayna Trail 2027
Takayna Trail is an ultramarathon fundraiser run by the Bob Brown Foundation in Takayna, north west Tasmania. The event is scheduled for 26 to 28 February 2027 and is based around the Men’s Shed in Waratah, which serves as the event headquarters.
Race options include:
- 22 km
- Mid distance (listed as 32 km or 37 km)
- 62 km
The route passes through ancient Gondwanan rainforest, buttongrass plains and sections of towering eucalypt and myrtle forest. Terrain varies frequently and includes steep hills and uneven surfaces. Participants are required to carry mandatory safety and navigation equipment such as a seam sealed waterproof jacket, a long sleeve thermal top, and a mobile phone with the Avenza app and a downloaded georeferenced map. Emergency food and water requirements are specified per course, with larger courses needing more reserves. Drop bags are permitted for the longest and the mid distance courses.
Event facilities at the Men’s Shed include designated unpowered tent and car camping areas, accessible toilets and showers, and a near level ramped entrance. Volunteer-run meals will be offered across the weekend with vegan and peanut free options and some gluten free choices. Waratah has limited supplies and fuel; larger shopping districts are in Burnie and Launceston. Pets are not permitted at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
