Event Overview

Takayna Trail is a boutique ultramarathon fundraiser held in remote north-west Tasmania. The event began in 2014 and has grown to become the Bob Brown Foundation's largest annual fundraising event.

Location and Course

The event is based in the heart of the Takayna wilderness in north-west Tasmania, with the Men's Shed in Waratah serving as headquarters. Participants experience ancient Gondwanan rainforests, ferns, fungi, myrtle forests, and buttongrass plains. The terrain includes steep hills and uneven surfaces. Participants can choose from three distances:

  • 22km
  • 37km
  • 62km

Logistics and Facilities

Designated areas for free tent camping and car camping are available on the Men's Shed grounds; these are unpowered sites. The Men's Shed has accessible toilets and shower facilities. Vegan and peanut-free meals with a gluten-free option are provided during the event. Waratah is a small town with one petrol station offering basic supplies; participants are advised to bring all they require.

Participant Information

Course registrations are full for 2026. A waitlist is available by email. Spectator tickets are sold separately. Mandatory gear includes a waterproof jacket, thermal top, mobile phone with specific apps, emergency food, water capacity, torch, whistle, space blanket, compass, snake bandage, printed maps, and other items. Drop bags are allowed for the 62km and 37km distances. Pets are not allowed at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
