Takayna Trail 2027
Takayna Trail is a boutique ultramarathon fundraiser held in remote north west Lutruwita / Tasmania. The event is scheduled from 26 to 28 Feb 2027 and is based in the heart of Takayna, a region noted for ancient Gondwanan rainforests.
The trail crosses a range of landscapes, including rainforest, buttongrass plains and sections with steep hills and uneven surfaces. Vegetation and scenery vary along the route, with forests of ferns, fungi, epiphytes, lichen and mosses, as well as towering eucalypts, myrtle forest and views over green valleys. The event began in 2014 and in 2026 raised over $400,000 for the organiser’s conservation work.
Race distances include:
- 22 km
- 62 km
Event headquarters are at the Men’s Shed in Waratah. Designated unpowered tent and car camping areas are available on site, and there is limited paid accommodation in Waratah and nearby towns. The Men’s Shed provides accessible toilets and shower facilities and has a near level (3 cm step) and a ramped entrance.
