Sweetcorn 5K Classic 2026, Hoopeston IL
The Sweetcorn 5K Classic is a memorial road race in honor of Bill Orr. The event traces its history to 1978 when it began as a 10K and was shortened to a 5K in 1982. It takes place in downtown Hoopeston as part of the town's annual Sweetcorn Festival activities.
The course starts in the downtown lot at 209 S. Market St and runs through mostly shaded residential neighborhoods. Race services include split timing, two aid stations, medical support, a finish line digital clock, computerized results, and food and refreshments. Awards for the 5K include a Race Champion Title belt for overall male and female winners and plaques three deep in age divisions. The 1 Mile run/walk awards a Race Champion Title belt to first place, custom medallions to the next nine finishers, and non-enscribed medals for other participants. A separate short distance run for children six years and younger is offered.
Race day registration and check in occur at the Downtown City Lot. The event is presented as part of the National Sweetcorn Festival and is accompanied by parade and festival activities in the town center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
