Sunapee Scramble
The Sunapee Scramble is a two lap up and down mountain race held at Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury, New Hampshire on June 7, 2026. The course totals about 9.3 miles with roughly 3,300 feet of elevation gain and requires runners to ascend Mount Sunapee twice.
The first lap begins by climbing a service road for about 2.3 miles, then follows trail with approximately 1,500 feet of ascent to the summit, followed by a 1.75 mile descent. The second lap climbs about 3.5 miles with about 1,800 feet of elevation gain, joining the Newbury Trail before returning on the same 1.75 mile descent to the Base Lodge.
The event is the host for the 2026 USATF Mountain Running Championships and will serve as the USATF Classic Mountain Running Team selection for competition in the WMRA World Cup finale in Quebec. The Collegiate Mountain Running National Championships are also scheduled at this event; a separate collegiate prize purse of $3,000 will be distributed to top college finishers and JAMBAR is listed as the official collegiate nutrition bar. For 2026, Brooks is providing $30,000 in cash prizes.
Additional details include a youth high school trail championship, race livestreams and photo galleries with free downloads provided by a sponsor, and a policy that poles and headphones are not allowed.
