Sun Devil Triathlon Classic
Arizona State University hosts the Sun Devil Triathlon Classic at Tempe Town Lake North Park (North Shore Beach, 600 N Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ). The event is an age-group, draft-legal sprint triathlon consisting of a 750 m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run.
The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon; every participant must hold an annual membership or purchase a one-day membership during registration. Age will be calculated as of 12/31/2027. Age Group Team USA qualification spots will be awarded to top athletes in five-year age groups (top 18 per gender based on remaining available spots), earning entry to the 2027 Age Group World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. Athletes must be at least 16 years old on 12/31/2027 to be eligible.
Pre-race activities include a draft legal clinic (separate registration required), athlete check-in and a swim course preview. Athletes must pick up their own packets and show ID.
Race timing uses triathlon chips worn on the left ankle from start to finish; lost or unreturned chips will be charged to the athlete and neoprene straps should not be cut. Aerobars are not allowed.
Racer amenities include an event t-shirt, finisher medal, post-race refreshments and awards for the top three male and female finishers in each age group from 10-14 through 80 plus. There is no parking at the race site; available parking requires at least a half mile walk or ride with several nearby garage options.
