Strandloper Trail Run
The Strandloper Trail Run is a linear coastal trail run in Cape Town, finishing at the Camel Rock Restaurant in Scarborough. The course covers 16 km along beaches, boardwalks and coastal paths. Pre-entry is limited to 200 places.
The route passes landmarks and sections including the Kakapo wreck, Kommetjie Beach, a boardwalk below the lighthouse, the Soetwater coastal route, Witsand beach and the grassy and rocky Strandloper trail. The trail includes slippery rock slabs onto Misty Cliffs beach and timber steps up to a wide gravel verge beside a tarred road; participants are expected to remain on the gravel and use the designated route to Scarborough.
Logistics are arranged for a linear point-to-point run, so participants must make their own return transport from the finish. The organiser will email the GPS track about a week before the event, and will send race numbers and a run briefing by email. There are no water tables; runners must be self-sufficient for hydration. Portaloos are provided at the Noordhoek beach car park, off Longbeach, Kommetjie and at the finish.
Compulsory kit includes a waterproof jacket with hood and long sleeves, a mobile phone, personal hydration, a mini first aid kit (stretch bandage, wound dressing, antihistamine, anti-inflammatory, triangular bandage, antiseptic cream), a whistle and a space blanket. Earphones or music devices are prohibited. Emergency contact and medical details must be carried. Participants are responsible for their own safety and must follow the event rules on trails and litter collection.
Categories for male and female entries are Senior 16–39, Vet 40–49 and Masters 50 plus. The entry fee is R490 and includes a branded cap or visor, a cup of filter coffee and an egg or vegetarian roll at the finish, plus finish-area facilities and music. Entries are confirmed only once proof of payment is received; refunds and substitutions are subject to the event’s stated conditions and fees.
