Stornoway Half Marathon & 10K
The Stornoway Half Marathon and 10K take place on Saturday 23 May 2026 and mark the 41st edition of this island event, first held in 1984. The races are organised by Stornoway Running & Athletics Club and run by unpaid volunteers; event profit supports local running and athletics development.
Distances
- Half Marathon
- 10K
The course combines tarmac roads and pavements with gravel forest trails. The route tours greater Stornoway and uses the Lews Castle Grounds trails; the trails are described as runnable and suitable for road shoes. Both races start and finish in the town centre at the Inner Harbour. The route is not ideal for wheelchairs.
Practical information includes race registration at the MA Hall on the evening before the race, and a prohibition on entries on the night before or on race day. Water stations are placed at approximately 3, 6, 9 and 11 miles on the half and there are two water stations on the 10K. All finishers receive a medal; half marathon finishers also receive a finishers T-shirt. Toilet facilities are available at the marina, Perceval Square and the MA Hall; there is a bag drop near the finish and showers at Lewis Sports Centre about an 800 m walk away.
Prize categories cover overall, veteran age groups, local prizes for Isle of Lewis residents with HS1 or HS2 postcodes (12 months residency required) and team prizes decided by the combined times of the first three team members. The event includes a post-race buffet and an evening ceilidh, with ceilidh ticket proceeds donated to a nominated local charity. Marshals are requested to support the event; marshal packs and event T-shirts are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
