Event details
The Step Up event in Storm Lake, Iowa is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026. It includes the following race options:
- Half Marathon
- 5k
- Half Marathon Relay (two-person or four-person teams)
- Youth 5k
- Youth Half Marathon
The half marathon course is USATF certified. Runners receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal; a t-shirt is not guaranteed for registrations received after August 21, 2025.
Course and logistics
The half marathon route follows the waters edge of Storm Lake and is described as primarily flat with little elevation change. The 5k is a loop that finishes just beyond King’s Pointe beach and playground. The route start is at King’s Pointe Resort (1520 E Lakeshore Dr.) and races finish at Awaysis Park (1409 E. Lakeshore Dr.); parking is available at the resort or the park.
There are six water stations on the half-marathon course and one on the 5k; stations will provide water and Gatorade. Half marathon relay teams must register as two- or four-person teams and coordinate their own handoff points along the course, with Lake Pointe Villa noted as an approximate halfway mark. Snacks, music, and refreshments will be available for runners at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
