St. Croix 40 Winter Ultra
The St. Croix 40 Winter Ultra is a winter survivalist race held in St. Croix State Park, Minnesota on January 9-10, 2027. Participants travel roughly 40 miles through park terrain during a cold Minnesota night. The event accepts participants on foot, on skis, or on fat bikes.
Runners, skiers, and cyclists carry all essential survival gear for overnight travel in winter conditions. Along the course, competitors must complete two on-course skill tests that require demonstrating the ability to use survival equipment. These skill tests are integrated into the race format rather than being optional checks.
The event is described as being organized in the same spirit as the Arrowhead 135 and the Tuscobia 160. Race information pages include details on required gear, race rules, frequently asked questions, and past race results and reports. Photographs and previous results are available for reference.
Overall, the St. Croix 40 combines a single roughly 40-mile winter route, self-supported survival requirements, and practical skill assessments during nighttime conditions in St. Croix State Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
