Event Overview
The Spencerville Adventist Academy (SAA) Cross Country 5K is an annual running event held on the school campus in Spencerville, Maryland. This edition marks the 10th year of the race, which takes place on a cross-country style course. The event proceeds regardless of weather conditions, utilizing the grounds of the educational facility established in 1943.
The competition features several distinct distances and categories to accommodate different ages and groups:
- 5K (3.1 Miles)
- 1 Mile Run
- Kids Fun Run
Participants in all race distances receive a race t-shirt and a finisher's medal. Incentives are provided for student participation, with specific awards designated for the fastest male and female runners in elementary, middle, and high school divisions. Competition is also organized by class, where the student groups with the highest registration rates per capita receive funds for class fundraising efforts.
In addition to traditional performance awards for winners in each category, the event includes a costume competition. Participants can choose to compete individually or form teams with family and friends. The course is situated on the academy campus, which has operated at its current facility since 2011.
