Space Race Presented by Spaceport America
The Space Race is a road running event held at Spaceport America, a commercial spaceport located in the Jornada del Muerto basin in New Mexico. The facility is situated 20 miles southeast of Truth or Consequences and 45 miles north of Las Cruces. This 2nd annual event takes place on a site spanning 18,000 acres of State Trust Land, which serves as a hub for various commercial space companies and flight training operations.
Participants can choose from three different distances:
- 15 km run
- 10 km run or walk
- 5 km run or walk
The course is stroller-friendly, and there is a three-hour time limit specifically for the 15 km event. All registered participants receive a custom-designed race shirt and a finisher's medal. As the event coincides with Mother's Day weekend, flowers are provided to mothers at the finish line.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall finishers. Recognition also extends to several age groups, ranging from 14 and under to 80 and over. Registration must be completed online in advance. Packet pickup is available the day before the race at two separate locations in Las Cruces and Truth or Consequences, as well as on-site on the morning of the event.
