Southern Rail Trail
The Southern Rail Trail run is organised by Elite Energy and takes place along the Great Southern Rail Trail in South Gippsland, Victoria. The event was postponed and rescheduled to 29 May 2027 due to operational and cost pressures affecting event delivery.
The course is predominantly flat and follows the former railway corridor, passing restored trestle bridges, old railway stations and heritage markers. The trail threads through coastal and rural landscapes and runs near towns including Toora, Foster, Meeniyan, Fish Creek, Stony Creek, Port Welshpool, Alberton and Leongatha. The region sits at the southern fringe of mainland Australia and is close to Wilsons Promontory.
Event formats and finishes vary by distance and include individual and team options for the longer events. Presentation breakfast arrangements are provided for finishers of some distances in Leongatha.
Sustainability measures are being introduced. Organisers plan to be pin-free by 2026 and offer reusable BIBSNAPS for purchase during entry or at the event. The decision to postpone cited increased operational costs driven by fuel levies and related supply chain impacts.
