Southern Rail Trail : Victoria
The Southern Rail Trail Run is a multi-distance running event on the Great Southern Rail Trail in South Gippsland, with a new event date of 13th November 2027. The trail follows a former railway corridor through rolling farmland, forests and small towns, and passes restored trestle bridges, old railway stations and heritage markers. The region offers views toward Wilsons Promontory and is about ninety minutes from Melbourne.
Distances and formats include:
- 100 km Port Welshpool to Alberton to Leongatha, individual and teams of 2 and 4, presentation breakfast
- 72 km Port Welshpool to Leongatha, individual and teams of 3, presentation breakfast
- 42.2 km Fish Creek to Leongatha
- 21.1 km Stony Creek to Leongatha
- 10 km Leongatha out and back
- 5 km Fun Run Leongatha out and back
- 2 km Family Dash Leongatha
The course is described as predominantly flat and follows the rail trail corridor through towns such as Toora, Foster and Meeniyan. The event offers a move away from single-use race pins: participants may purchase reusable BibSnaps during entry or at the event, or bring their own pins.
