Event Overview
The South Bay 24 is an endurance running event held at Montgomery Waller Community Park in San Diego, California. The 2026 event marks its fifth annual edition.
Course and Distances
The event features a flat, 1.22-mile loop course to be run counter-clockwise. The terrain is a combination of trail (50%), grass (25%), and bike path (25%). Each loop has an elevation gain of 46 feet. Participants can choose from several timed events:
- 24 Hour
- 12 Hour Night
- 12 Hour Day
- 6 Hour Day
- Heffty Half Marathon Night (18.3 miles / 15 laps)
Event Features
The event includes a runner campsite area. Registered participants receive a trucker hat and a finisher medal. Runners who complete 100 miles receive a belt buckle. A pancake breakfast is provided on Saturday morning, and a happy hour with beer and seltzers is held on Saturday afternoon. A $1500 purse prize is available for the first runner to reach 125 miles; the current course record is 117 miles.
Logistics
Packet pickup occurs one hour before a runner's scheduled start time at the event. Parking is available in park lots and along Palm Avenue. An on-course aid station operates for the full 24 hours, providing water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks during scheduled windows. Pacers are permitted from 10 AM to 7 PM on Saturday.
