Snap Dragon
Snap Dragon is an elimination-style trail race held at Sunset Mountain on 10/17/2026. The event is limited to participants aged 18 and older and to the first 25 entries. The listed distance for the event is 13.1 Miles.
Runners complete repeated laps of a 0.86 mile loop on the Snap Dragon trail. Each lap has a 12 minute cutoff; the last person to complete each lap is eliminated, and any runner who does not return within 12 minutes is also removed from the field. The event runs for 180 minutes this year, with an additional race-off lap if needed; the race continues until a final placing is determined.
The trail is described as aggressive terrain combining forest trails, loose gravel, large rocks, steep downhills, cow pasture sections, and twists and turns, with approximately 215 feet of elevation gain from the starting gate and a finish on a gravel driveway. Top competitors may cover a half marathon distance during the event.
Registration opens 4/11/2026 and closes 10/17/2026; the registration fee is $52.00. Each paid entry includes entrance to Sunset Mountain for the participant and one guest on race day. Top male and female finishers receive embroidered robes; awards are presented immediately after the race. A free dinner provided via a barbecue cook off is offered on race day, and participants may enter the cook off competition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
