Slievenamon Mountain Race
The Slievenamon mountain race takes place in County Tipperary, starting from the village of Kilcash. The event is part of the Munster Championship league and offers multiple course options across difficult terrain with significant elevation changes.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 9.97 km main course with 580 m climb
- 4.81 km short course
- 6.6 km selection race for juniors with 612 m climb
The route begins at a barrier near the car park entrance and follows trails toward the mountain base. Runners on the main course ascend the mountain, circle the cairn clockwise, and descend through a series of gates and rocky paths before finishing on the road in Kilcash village. The short course follows a similar path but excludes the higher mountain section. The junior selection race concludes 500 m beyond the summit and serves as a trial for international competition.
This event uses Level B mandatory kit requirements. All participants must bring a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency numbers, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Race marking is limited to major junctions, and the use of GPS devices is permitted. Parking is available in a designated field in Kilcash for a small fee, and public toilets are accessible on-site. Entry is limited to 250 participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
