Shenandoah River Adventure Race
The Shenandoah River Adventure Race takes place on August 22, 2026 at Shenandoah River State Park in Bentonville, Virginia. The event offers two timed formats that combine river paddling, single-track mountain biking, and off-trail trekking across park terrain.
Both formats use pre-plotted maps and electronic e-punch scoring. The event includes awards and plaques for standout performances, post race hot food and a firepit social. Bike rentals are available through Downriver Canoe.
Key distances:
- 30 miles 5 hour format
- 60 miles 12 hour format
The 12 hour format features extended mountain biking sections, a scenic paddle stretch along the Shenandoah River, multiple route options, and entry for solo competitors or teams up to four people. Pre-plotted maps are provided for all disciplines.
The 5 hour format covers a mix of paddling, trekking, and mountain biking with typical subtotals listed in event materials: about 3 miles of paddling, 4–6+ miles of trekking, and 8+ miles of mountain biking. Transition areas allow racers to resupply and reorient during the race.
Participants often stay at Low Water Bridge Campground or nearby park cabins, making the race a day within a broader outdoor weekend experience. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
