Shenandoah Epic Adventure Race : Bentonville, VA

The Shenandoah Epic is a 24 hour adventure race held in Bentonville, Virginia, with a course that crosses the Shenandoah Valley and the Massanutten Mountain Range. The event offers Soloist and team divisions for two, three, and four person teams. The field is capped at 300 racers and the event is USARA sanctioned.

The race combines multiple disciplines and staged transitions over a 24 hour period. Expected discipline distances include:

  • 25 miles of river paddling
  • 25 to 35 miles of trekking
  • 50 to 60 miles of mountain biking

Boats and basic paddle gear are supplied: soloists receive a kayak, two and three person teams receive one canoe, and four person teams receive two canoes. Canoes are supplied with single blade paddles, kayaks with double blade paddles, and personal flotation devices are provided. Outside canoes and kayaks are not permitted; outside paddles and PFDs are allowed.

Maps are pre plotted on waterproof paper at 1:24,000 scale with UTM grid markings. Teams receive two map sets and soloists receive one. No GPS devices are allowed. Bikes of any style are permitted except eBikes, and racers must use the same bike for the event. Mandatory gear is required and random checks may be performed during the race; penalties apply for missing items.

Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each division and special cash awards are available for KOM times. A post race brunch and course photography are part of the event.
