Shark Week Showdown
The Shark Week Showdown is a multi-distance running event held at Beard Park in Little Elm, Texas. Hosted by the Bigfoot Running Company, this ocean-themed event features various race lengths to accommodate different participants. The terrain consists of a mix of pavement, crushed granite, and dirt paths located within public park areas and greenbelts.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- Kids Dash: A 50m non-timed run for children aged 10 and under.
- 1 Mile Run: A non-timed event suitable for walking or running.
- 5K Run: A chip-timed 3.11-mile race with age group awards.
- 10K Run: A chip-timed 6.22-mile race for those seeking a longer distance.
- Virtual Run: A 9.33-mile option for remote participation.
The 5K and 10K races are competitive events with professional chip timing. Awards are presented to the first overall male and female finishers, as well as the top masters (40+) participants. Additionally, gold, silver, and bronze awards are provided for standard age groups ranging from 10 and under to 70 and over.
Registered participants receive a soft-themed race t-shirt and a finisher medal. To guarantee a shirt in the correct size, registration must be completed at least 10 days before the event. The race site includes aid stations along the course and music at the start and finish lines. Packet pickup is available on-site beginning 90 minutes before the first race.
The event proceeds regardless of weather conditions, including rain, heat, or cold. As the course occupies public spaces, runners share the paths with other park users such as cyclists and pedestrians. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
