The Selma to Montgomery 51 Mile Relay is organized by the Civil Rights Race Series to commemorate the 1965 civil rights march. The event covers a total distance of 51 Miles along a point-to-point route that begins in Selma, Alabama at Pilcher-McBryde Drug Company / Rexall Drugs (101 Broad Street) and ends at the state capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.
The program includes multiple participation options: team relay legs, a solo runner category, in-person bike rides with and without transportation, and virtual run and virtual bike options. Standard registration fees vary by option and include $150 for many in-person entries, $195 for the bike ride with transportation, and $70 for virtual entries. Registration opens on 2026-05-25 and closes on 2026-07-02 for the listed options.
The bike-transport option provides storage and transportation of the cyclist and their bicycle to the start; bikes are retrieved at the Montgomery Multiplex at Cramton Bowl. There is also a bike-ride waiting list option that requires a minimum of 45 participants to remain available; if that threshold is not met by the registration deadline the option will be removed and affected registrants will be offered a refund or transfer.
A 12-hour completion time is enforced for the event. Virtual participants may complete portions of the total mileage or the full 51 miles, and virtual entries are not eligible for awards. Race goodie bags are mailed to virtual participants the week of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
