Civil Rights Commemorative Event

The Selma to Montgomery 51 Mile Relay and Bike Ride is an event organized by the Civil Rights Race Series. This event commemorates the 1965 march led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The course begins at 101 Broad Street in Selma, Alabama, and concludes at the state capitol in Montgomery.

Participants can choose from several event formats:

  • 51 Mile Relay
  • Solo Runner
  • 51 Mile Bike Ride
  • Virtual Run (51 or 100 Miles)
  • Virtual Bike Ride (51 or 100 Miles)

The event has a strictly enforced 12-hour completion time for the in-person categories. For the bike ride, participants are generally responsible for their own transportation to the starting line in Selma. However, a specific registration option exists that includes transportation for the cyclist and their bike from Montgomery to the start point, provided certain registration minimums are met and bikes are dropped off at the Montgomery Multiplex at Cramton Bowl on the preceding Friday.

Virtual options allow participants to complete the mileage at once or over a period of time. These participants must submit their times through the designated tracker and are not eligible for designated awards. All participants should note specific cutoff dates for t-shirts and partner medals during the registration period. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
