Scotland Coast to Coast : Rat Race multisport adventure
This is a multisport coast to coast event across the Scottish Highlands over one or two days. The route combines trail running, road and off-road cycling, a mountain trek section, and a final flat water kayak to the finish. The organiser states the total route is approximately 100 miles and passes notable locations such as Cawdor Castle, Loch Ness, Glen Nevis and Glen Coe.
The event is fully waymarked and includes luggage transport and optional coach transfers before and after the event. Kayaks and associated kayak equipment are provided; participants must provide their own bike or arrange hire. A finisher's medal and Rat Rag are supplied. Professional safety provision is listed, including 4x4 support vehicles, mountain safety staff, water safety and a paramedic team with motorbike outriders.
There is a mandatory kit list covering items such as trail shoes, a running or trekking backpack, a minimum 2 litre hydration system, basic first aid, 1000 kcal food reserve, a survival bag, whistle, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a charged phone, payment method, supplied tracker, cycle helmet and a headtorch. Spot checks are carried out and participants cannot continue without required kit.
Cut-offs are applied and enforced for safety; failure to meet cut-offs will result in transport forward to the finish. Entry transfers are flexible up to one month before the event. Participants must be over 18 on the day of registration and register at Cawdor Castle on the Friday before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
