Trail Race at Ferncliff
The Scorchin' Squirrel Trail Run takes place at the Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center, located 10 miles west of Little Rock. The event spans 1,200 acres of natural terrain and offers four distinct distance options based on a repeating loop system. Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 10k (one loop)
- 11.5 miles (two loops)
- 15.5 miles (three loops)
- 19.5 miles (four loops)
The course features significant inclines and may include water crossings depending on recent weather conditions. Each loop includes one full aid station and one water drop point to support runners during the race. While the shorter distances provide an entry point for those new to trail running, the August date offers an environment for heat training.
The start and finish lines are located at the Ferncliff pool pavilion. After completing their distance, participants have access to the swimming pool and changing stalls. A cookout featuring burgers and hot dogs begins at the pavilion in the mid morning. Attendees are permitted to bring items to share, though glass containers and pets are prohibited on the grounds.
Registration must be completed in advance as there is no race day registration. Proceeds from the event are directed toward supporting the Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center.
