Saxon 5 Mile Race
The Saxons 5 Mile Race is a multi-terrain running event located in Saxmundham. The course utilizes a mix of playing fields, footpaths, and off-road sections. Starting from the sports field at Carlton Park Sports Ground, the route heads toward Brook Farm Road and Kelsale before looping back to finish at the original sports field location. The event is chip timed, fully marshalled, and sign-posted for participants.
The competition is open to runners aged 15 and over. In addition to the main race, the event includes junior options:
- 5 Miles: The primary multi-terrain course for participants aged 15 and older.
- 2 km: A junior fun run consisting of two laps of the sports field for ages 9 to 14.
- 1 km: A junior fun run consisting of one lap of the sports field for ages 8 and under.
The event headquarters are based at the Carlton Park Sports Pavilion. Facilities on-site include free marshalled car parking, changing rooms, and toilets. There is no bag drop service available. Participants collect their race numbers and timing chips on the morning of the event at the pavilion. A refreshment stall offering various cakes is available on-site.
Prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers, alongside various age category awards ranging from V40 to V70+. Every finisher in the 5-mile race receives a memento, and medals are provided to all participants in the junior fun runs. Please note that the use of earphones is strictly prohibited during the race.
