The Leaping Lion Run
The Leaping Lion Run is a seven hour Time Challenge held along a stretch of the River Thames from The Last Hop in Staines. The event uses a looped course that is fully signed and mainly on well made paths and tarmac with a very short grass section, so road shoes are suitable. The regular lap measures 4.37 miles (7 km) but may be adjusted to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. A 3 km minimum distance applies and there are 3 km and 5 km turn points on the lap to accommodate age restrictions.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and is held under UK Athletics rules. Entry prices range from £18 to £36; members receive the lowest entry price which is £10 lower than full price, and club members affiliated to UK Athletics receive a £2 discount.
Finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal. Distance pins are awarded for half marathon distance and above and are attached to the medal ribbon. Finishers receive a goody bag with a vegan option available on request. Aid and drinks tables are located at the start/finish area of each lap offering drinks and snacks with vegan options. Toilets are available at The Last Hop but there are no separate changing rooms or showers. A non secure bag drop is provided.
