SARR Great Greenway Marathon Relay
The event is a point to point marathon relay covering 26.2 miles along the Howard Peak Greenway System and Salado Creek at the edge of the Texas Hill Country in San Antonio. The route begins at the Rim Trailhead off Vance Jackson Road and finishes at the McAllister Dog Park trailhead. The course is scenic and shaded and is divided into five relay legs that vary in length.
Teams consist of 2 to 5 runners and all team members must register separately. Minimum age to participate is 14. Registration opens 2026-09-14 and closes 2026-10-12; the standard registration fee is $40 per person. Shirts are guaranteed only to the first 500 registrants who register prior to January 15; after that shirts or sizes are not guaranteed. Member, youth, senior and military discounts apply under specified conditions and deadlines.
Race rules require each runner to carry a team baton while running, the fifth leg runner to wear the red race bib, and completion of every leg for team eligibility. Teams using a baby stroller or running with a pet are not eligible for awards. Packets must be picked up on scheduled dates before race day and one person may pick up for the whole relay team; batons are distributed on race day at the start line. A seven hour time limit applies to the marathon and relay course.
Awards are presented to the top three teams in junior, open, masters and super masters categories, with mixed teams required to include at least two female runners. Additional awards recognize best team shirt and best team name. Course records are maintained by category and year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
