Event overview
The SARR Great Greenway Marathon Relay takes place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in San Antonio, TX (zip 78250). It is a point-to-point marathon relay along the Howard Peak Greenway System, covering 26.2 miles along trails that follow the Leon and Salado creeks. The course begins at the Mainland Trail Head (8241 Mainland Drive) and finishes at the McAllister Dog Park trailhead.
Format, categories and logistics
Teams may have 2 to 5 runners and the race is divided into five relay legs that range from 4.5 to 6.5 miles. Participants must be at least 14 years old; eligible ages listed are 14 to 99. Each runner must carry the team baton while running. The 5th-leg runner must wear the red race bib/number. Batons are distributed at the start line. There is a 7-hour time limit for the course.
Awards are given to the top three teams in Junior (ages 14-20), Open, Masters (40+), and Super Masters (50+) categories, with separate male, female, and mixed divisions; non-binary teams receive a first-place award only. Mixed teams must include at least two female runners. An award is also given for best team shirts.
Registration fee is listed per person ($50 in the event details) and increases after January 11, 2026. Team members must register individually and designate or join a team. Packet pickup must be completed in advance on the specified dates; there is no race-day packet pickup. Water coolers are available at each relay spot and at several parks along the course; city water fountains may not be functioning.
