Event details
The San Remo Channel Challenge is a swim-and-run event hosted by Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club as part of the Bass Coast Series (Leg 3). The course consists of:
- 550 m channel swim from San Remo (mainland) to Newhaven (Phillip Island)
- 2 km bridge run back to San Remo via the Phillip Island Bridge
The swim takes place on slack water of the appropriate high tide; slack water lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes and competitors must complete the swim within that period. The swim leg finishes on the Newhaven foreshore, where a grassy transition area is used for putting on running shoes. The town holds a day-long program of market stalls, food vendors and live music alongside the event. The event raises funds for volunteer lifesaving patrols at Woolamai Beach and Smiths Beach and for lifesaving services on Phillip Island.
