San Remo Channel Challenge
The San Remo Channel Challenge is a swim-run event listed for Saturday 6 February 2027 that raises funds for volunteer lifesaving on Phillip Island and the surrounding region. The course begins on the San Remo foreshore south of the pier and features a swim across the channel to Newhaven followed by a run back across the bridge and into San Remo to finish in front of the San Remo Hotel Motel.
Distances
- 550 m channel swim
- 2 km run over the bridge back into San Remo
Entry is by online registration only and the minimum competitor age is 15 years on the day. Fee categories include Early Bird and Standard pricing for Individuals 18 plus, Juniors under 18, and Relay Teams. Race kit must be collected at the San Remo Hotel during the designated pick-up sessions; the race centre closes at 3pm on the final pick-up day and failure to check in before that time will void an entry. Results are published 90 minutes after the race finishes.
Categories cover junior, senior and age groups (for example 40+ and 50+) plus male, female and relay divisions including mixed and local classes. Cash prizes and prize packs are listed for overall, senior, junior, age group and local winners, including a $500 prize for overall winners and first senior male and female.
Safety rules require wearing the issued swim cap and timing transponder at all times, and prohibit artificial propulsion devices. Wetsuits and goggles are permitted and recommended. In-water rescue assistance will return a swimmer to shore and result in retirement from the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
