Event overview

The Sam Costa Half and Quarter Marathons take place on March 21, 2026 in Carmel, Indiana. The races are organized by Indy Runners and Walkers, a volunteer-led, RRCA-affiliated running and walking club. The event is described as the oldest road race in Indiana, first held in 1970, and managed by the club since the early 1980s. The venue is Northview Church (Carmel Campus), which has hosted the event since 2006. The 2026 edition is the 55th annual running.

Logistics and race details

  • Half marathon: 13.109 miles
  • Quarter marathon: 6.554 miles

The course was updated in 2024 to improve safety and reduce the number of turns; the start and finish are expected to remain in the church parking lot. There is a 3-hour time limit for each race. Walkers are encouraged to select the quarter marathon. Packet pick-up and race-day check-in occur inside the church Student Activity Center; there is no early packet pick-up.

Registration options include an optional finisher medal that must be added by March 3, 2026. Current club members who register by March 15, 2026 receive a $10 discount. All net proceeds support local running and walking programs, including high school scholarships, seasonal training programs, and community runs.

Awards include top three male and female finishers in open and master divisions and age-group awards for males and females in five-year groups from 19 & under to 75 & over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
