55th Annual Sam Costa Half and Quarter Marathons

Established in 1970, the Sam Costa Half and Quarter Marathons is known as the oldest race in Indiana. The event is organized by Indy Runners and Walkers, the largest running and walking club in the state. Participants can choose between two road race distances:

  • Half marathon (13.109 miles)
  • Quarter marathon (6.554 miles)

Both races start and finish at Northview Church in Carmel, Indiana. The start and finish lines are located within the church parking lot, while pre-race and post-race activities take place inside the nearby Student Center. The courses were recently updated to improve safety by reducing the total number of turns.

The event features a three-hour time limit for both distances. For the half marathon, this requires maintaining a pace of 13:45 minutes per mile, while quarter marathon participants have a limit of 27:28 minutes per mile. Registration options include the choice to add an optional finisher medal if selected by a specific deadline in early March. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in the open and master divisions, along with age group awards ranging from 19 and under to 75 and over.

Packet pick-up and race day registration take place on the morning of the event at the Student Center. There is no early packet pick-up hosted before the race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
