Rut Run 5K - Estes Park, CO
The Rut Run 5K takes place in Estes Park as part of Elk Fest on October 3, 2026. The event follows a mostly downhill, scenic route from Fish Hatchery Road along the Fall River Trail and finishes at Performance Park on the River Walk.
The course distance is 5K (3.1 miles) and includes a mix of terrain: a gentle rolling quiet road for the first mile, a detached multi-use trail for miles two and three, and a short single-track dirt segment of about 100 yards. Runners pass river views, gold-colored aspen groves, and the historic Elkhorn Lodge, with possible elk sightings from a safe distance.
Logistics note that participants are transported from the Estes Park Visitor Center by a shuttle to the start area. Race day packet pick-up is located at the east side of the Estes Park Visitor Center. Free parking is available at the Visitor Center Parking Structure on Hwy 36, and restrooms are located at the Visitor Center and the Estes Park United Methodist Church.
Registration includes one complimentary beer token and offers the option to purchase a long-sleeved race shirt for $22. Awards are given for overall and masters top finishers and across standard age-group categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
