Rut Run 5k : Estes Park
The Rut Run 5k is a 5K road and trail event on October 3, 2026 in Estes Park, Colorado, presented as part of Elk Fest. The course begins on Fish Hatchery Road, follows the Fall River Trail and finishes at Performance Park along the River Walk. The route is described as downhill overall and includes a mix of surfaces: a gentle rolling quiet road for the first mile, a detached multi-use trail for miles two and three, and a short single-track dirt section of about 100 yards.
The event route passes river views, stands of aspen, and the historic Elkhorn Lodge. Elk may be visible in the area; sightings are noted as possible and are expected to be observed from a safe distance. Participants are transported from the Estes Park Visitor Center to the start area by a free shuttle service.
Amenities and logistics include free parking at the Estes Park Visitor Center Parking Structure on Hwy 36 and restroom facilities at the Visitor Center and the Estes Park United Methodist Church. Registration for the race includes one complimentary beer token valid during Elk Fest, and registrants may purchase a long-sleeved race shirt for an additional fee. Post-race food options are available at nearby restaurants and at food trucks during Elk Fest.
