Running Up For Air - Grandeur
Running Up For Air - Grandeur is a winter endurance challenge held on Grandeur Peak in the Wasatch Mountains. The event offers 6 hour, 12 hour, and 24 hour formats and was created in 2012 to raise funds in support of improved air quality for communities along the Wasatch Front. The event is part of a series that directs proceeds to selected non-profit organizations and presents science based material about the importance of healthy air. Events are conducted with a minimal footprint philosophy.
The course runs from the Church Fork picnic area to the summit of Grandeur Peak and back. Each lap is 5.8 miles with about 2,600 feet of elevation gain and reaches the summit at 8,299' elevation. Participants complete as many laps as possible within the chosen time limit and continue until they Refuse To Continue (RTC).
The event takes place in February, when the route is almost entirely snow covered. Given the season, conditions can include winter mountain weather and snow on the trail, which affects footing and effort required per lap. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
