About the race
Run Your Outback Trail Festival is a multi-day trail running event held at Kimek on the lands of the Kungarakan and Warai peoples. The 2026 festival took place 21 to 23 August and featured a programme of timed trail races across varied outback terrain including bush, rock, old train lines, billabongs and many hills. All profits from the event support Remote Outreach programs working with First Nations youth in remote Top End communities.
Races at the festival include the following distances:
- 1.35 km kids trail (age 5-11)
- 7.2–7.3 km short trails (age 11+ and 13+ depending on the event)
- 18 km trail (age 15+)
- 28.2 km trail (age 18+)
- 56.5 km trail (age 18+)
Mandatory equipment requirements include a collapsible cup, flask or drink bottle for all participants; a head torch is also mandatory for the nocturnal 7 km and the 56 km event’s first lap. The festival provides a main aid station at the start/finish area and remote water drops on course. Race briefings and time cut-offs are used for safety. Camping is available as a wild, self-catered camp with a modest camping fee and limited amenities. Event entries can be combined into multi-race packages with cumulative placement awards for KANGA and DINGO series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
