Event overview
Run With Shears is an annual May running event hosted by the Indiana EMS Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity. The race is held on the Indiana State Museum Lawn at 650 W Washington St in Indianapolis, next to the Indiana Statehouse. The event raises funds to create an addition to the memorial for emergency medical technicians and paramedics who died in the line of duty. The course runs along the Downtown Canal and is described as fast and flat; it is USATF sanctioned. The event is used to kick off National EMS Week and regularly attracts hundreds of runners, walkers, and EMS professionals from the Midwest. Children and strollers are welcome.

Entry fees listed in the event information are $35 for the 5k and the Virtual 5k, and $5 for the Kid's Dash. A price increase is noted after May 4, 2026. Kid's Dash registration closes May 16, 2026 at 8:59am EDT.
Registered 5k participants receive a Run With Shears t-shirt, a custom finisher medal, a custom bib, and Mylaps bibtag timing. The event offers elite awards and medals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
