Run The Owl Route
Run The Owl Route is a limited-entry three-day running experience based in Nieu-Bethesda, Eastern Cape. The event combines trail running with local hospitality, meals, and accommodation in and around the village.
The route is spread over three stages with varied surfaces and water points:
- Day 1: 8 km through the village, singletrack climb, and historic water furrows.
- Day 2: 19.3 km with about 300 m climbing on gravel roads, jeep track and singletrack.
- Day 3: 6 km relaxed final leg with a suspension bridge crossing and a visit to Tot Hier Toe Padstal.
Day 1 features multiple village pit stops, including a refreshment at Aunt Evelyn and dual check-ins at Boetie’s Pub and The Village Inn. Day 2 includes waterpoints near Doornberg Guest Farm and a final section along spring-fed streams and koppies. Day 3 passes farm animals and concludes after a visit to the padstal, where farm-style food and coffee are available.
Runners receive event merchandise including a themed runners shirt and partner products. Walkers are welcome. The course surfaces include jeep tracks, singletracks, gravel and district roads, and waterpoints are provided at specified locations on each day.
