Event Overview
The Run Sober, Run Safe event takes place in Horizon City near El Paso, Texas. This organized gathering honors the life and legacy of Officer Jacob Arellano. The primary mission of the event is to promote sober driving, accountability, and community safety. It brings together local residents, law enforcement professionals, families, and community partners to raise awareness about the prevention of drunk driving tragedies.
The event consists of two main participation options:
- 5K Run/Walk: A professionally timed 3.1 mile course for both competitive and recreational participants.
- 1 Mile Run/Walk: A shorter distance intended for community members and families.
A specific Law Enforcement Challenge is incorporated into the 5K event. The first place male officer and the first place female officer to complete the race receive an entry and trip to a specific event in Dallas, Texas, scheduled for July 2026. To qualify for this challenge, participating officers are required to complete the course while wearing their full law enforcement uniform and duty gear.
The proceedings are supported by the Officer Jacob Arellano Foundation. Participants gather to support the foundation's mission while honoring those who have served the community. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
