Run Like a Mother Nelson
Run Like a Mother is an annual community road race in Nelson, British Columbia. The event features three routes that highlight local streets, waterfront sections, and neighborhood bikeways.
The routes:
- Half Marathon - 21 KM
- 10 Kilometer Route - 10 KM
- 5 Kilometer Route - 5 KM
The half marathon course passes Baker Street, the B.O.B (the big orange bridge), Horlick Point, and the Fairview neighbourhood, and starts and finishes at Hall Street Plaza. The 10 km route follows waterfront sections along Bealby Road, turns at Horlick Point, and returns via the Fairview bikeway. The 5 km route is an out-and-back along the Fairview bikeway through the Fairview neighbourhood.
There are water stations on course: one for the 5 km, two for the 10 km, and four for the 21 km. Water and Gatorade are available at all stations.
Event organization is community oriented and supported by local sponsors and volunteers. The event has a history of donating funds to local organizations. Totals and recipients by year include:
- 2022: $10,000 to Kootenay Kids.
- 2023: $11,000 split among Kootenay Kids, Nelson Nordic Ski Club, Kidsport, and the BC Cancer Society.
- 2024: $13,000 to several local groups including Nelson Friends of the Family.
- 2025: $16,000 to multiple local programs.
- 2026: $20,000 distributed among local charities and programs.
For safety and logistics, strollers, baby carriers, and pets are not permitted on the course. Earbuds and headphones are not allowed. There is no dedicated area to store belongings. Merchandise is available for pickup in Nelson from volunteers and is not shipped. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
