Rothaarsteig-Marathon
The Rothaarsteig-Marathon is an organized running event held in Fleckenberg, located in the Schmallenberger Sauerland region. This event attracts over 1,000 active participants and offers a variety of disciplines including marathon, half-marathon, walking, and nordic walking. The event is a DLV-approved popular run.
Participants can choose from several course lengths:
- 42.195 km (Marathon) with 838 meters of elevation gain
- 22.600 km (Half-Marathon, Walking, and Nordic Walking) with 421 meters of elevation gain
- 12.500 km (AOK-Lauf) with 320 meters of elevation gain
The marathon route includes a 3.5 km warm-up phase before heading uphill toward the Rothaarsteig. Runners pass through Lenner Felder, Böhre, and Heidkopf, reaching the Rothaarsteig trail at Jagdhaus. The course reaches its highest point at Großer Kopf (742 m) and passes sights like the suspension bridge and forest sculptures before descending through Schanze and Latrop. The half-marathon follows a similar path but with a shorter route, also reaching Großer Kopf before returning via the Latrop stream to the finish at the Fleckenberg sports field.
The 12.5 km run shares its first 5 km with the half-marathon before branching off. It reaches its highest point at Kleiner Heidkopf (666 m) and descends past the Schäferhof refreshment station. Refreshment stations are located approximately every 5 km along the courses and at the finish, offering water, tea, electrolytes, fruit, and energy bars. Medical support is provided by the DRK and an emergency physician. Running with dogs is not permitted. Facilities such as showers and changing rooms are available for participants near the sports field and local gym. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
