Rose Canyon Ultra
The Rose Canyon Ultra uses trails in the Rose, Butterfield, and Yellow Fork Canyon areas and starts and finishes at the Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park. The course follows single track and ridge trails through meadows and dense foliage, with the Kennecott Mine overlooking parts of the route.
Distances offered include:
- 50 mile
- 50k
- 30k
Aid stations are described as well stocked and will offer Tailwind electrolyte drink, water, Honey Stinger gels and waffles, fruit, soda, and a variety of snack items. The course is marked with pink flags, ribbons, signs, and trail marshals; flagging is placed before, during, and after turns on the side of the trail corresponding to the turn. Yellow Fork Aid Station has ample parking and welcomes crew; Butterfield Aid Station for the 50 miler has extremely limited parking and does not allow crew.
Pacers are allowed for the 50 miler only beginning at the Yellow Fork Aid Station. One drop bag is permitted at Butterfield Peak Trailhead for 50 mile runners and one drop bag at Yellow Fork Aid Station for all distances. Drop bags must be brought to the race start Saturday morning and will be returned to the finish periodically.
Packet pickup is available Friday at the Salt Lake Running Company in Sandy and on race day. Free parking is provided in the native grass event parking area. Time cutoffs are applied for safety: 50 mile follows a 20 minute mile cutoff, 50k a 21 minute 30 second mile cutoff, and 30k a 30 minute mile cutoff.
Race amenities include course marking, locally made finisher and age medals, a race shirt, post-race breakfast and pizza, free race photos, and live results. Volunteers receive a credit toward future events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
