About the race
Roots & Ruts 2026 is the 13th annual trail race held at Nitehawk Year‑Round Adventure Park on Friday, September 11, 2026. The course uses South Bear Creek's Waxwing Trails and participants may run or walk the marked routes.

- 10 km
Entry fees are listed by distance and age category, with adult and youth pricing for each distance. Registration is offered online only and includes a Roots & Ruts finisher medal, a meal, and refreshments. Registrations received by 1 pm on Wednesday, August 26 will receive personalized bibs. A Roots & Ruts tech t shirt is available as an optional add on for an additional fee until August 26.
Awards are presented after the event to the top three male and top three female finishers in each distance category. Race entries are non refundable but may be transferred to another racer before race day. Package pickup is available early on Thursday, September 10 at Ernie's Sports Experts and on race day for out of town racers at the South Bear Creek Park Pavilion; an online waiver is required prior to pickup.
A four week Waxwing Wednesday training group runs in the weeks leading up to the race on August 12, 19, 26 and September 2 and meets at the Bear Paw Golf Course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
