Roots, Ridges & Regrets Backyard Ultra : Smithers, British Columbia
Roots, Ridges and Regrets is a Backyard Ultra held on private trails in the Driftwood community just outside Smithers, British Columbia. The event takes place on September 12, 2026 and uses a loop of 6 km per yard. A new yard begins every hour; runners must complete the loop and be back at the start before the next yard begins to continue. The last person to complete one more yard than all others is the winner.
The event is in its second year. Registration is open and the race is capped at 80 runners. Participants must be 16 or older to enter; one yard each day is designated a family yard where younger children may run with a guardian. The entry fee is $60 per runner.
The course is trail terrain on private property at 6440 Old Babine Lake Road, Smithers. Onsite services include first aid throughout the event, continuous music and an MC, participant race kits, and trophies for the winner and the assist. A beer garden is being planned. The inaugural 2025 edition recorded 46 finishers and included top performances exceeding twenty yards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
