Riordan King of the Mountain

The Riordan King of the Mountain is a historical foot race held in Wycheproof. Originally staged between 1978 and 1988, the event was resurrected in 2023 by the Wycheproof-Narraport Football Club. The competition takes place on Mount Wycheproof, which is recognized as the smallest mountain in the world.

Participants in the primary categories carry heavy loads over a specific distance to reach the summit. The event features 10 race categories designed for different participants, including the Riordan King and Queen of the Mountain titles.

  • King of the Mountain: Competitors carry 60kg bags of wheat for a distance of 1 km to the summit.
  • Queen of the Mountain: A competitive category involving a ascent to the peak of Mount Wycheproof.

The race program is accompanied by a community picnic at the conclusion of the events. This gathering includes the formal medal presentations and the broadcasting of the AFL Grand Final on a large screen. The site features various food trucks and provides free entertainment for children throughout the day. The carnival atmosphere serves as a local gathering for running enthusiasts and spectators from across the nation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
