Railway Marathon and Half Marathon
The Railway Marathon takes place in Fultondale, Alabama, starting at Black Creek Park. The course is situated on the Five Mile Creek Greenway, a rails-to-trail path located approximately 15 minutes north of Birmingham. The route passes through the cities of Fultondale, Gardendale, and Brookside.
This event features a variety of distances:
- 50K
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10K
- 5K
- 1 Mile Fun Run
- Virtual 5K
The courses are USATF certified and the marathon serves as a Boston Qualifier. The route is chip timed and follows a relatively flat, fast path suitable for various types of running footwear, including carbon shoes. A strict cut-off time of six hours applies to all distances, including the 50K and Marathon events.
All finishers across every distance receive a custom finisher medal at the finish line. On-course support includes stations provided with water, sports drinks, and gels. Packet pickup is scheduled at The Trak Shak in Birmingham on the day before the race, with limited pickup available on race morning near the finish line for those unable to attend the Friday session. Proceeds from the event support Unless U, an organization dedicated to continuing education and job training for adults with special needs.
