About the race
The Int. Raiffeisen Silvesterlauf in Peuerbach is an annual New Year´s Eve running event that combines elite competition, mass races and a show program. The event focuses on each participant and includes age-group races for children, pupils and youth, each with its own year-group ranking. Recently more than 500 youth athletes started in the children´s races. Every participant receives a finisher medal.
Race formats mentioned include:
- 6,800 meters Volkslauf with team scoring.
- 3 x 850 meters relay, run in teams of three with a youth ranking.
The event also features a separate elite race called the "Lauf der Asse" in which national and international top athletes compete; past fields have included Olympians, world and European champions and national champions from around 47 nations. Organisers present a staged show program for spectators, with DJ Max, several moderators, live broadcasting on video walls and a livestream lasting four and a half hours. Food is available along the route and a tombola offers prizes. The organisers are Sportunion IGLA long life.
