The Red Loop runs in the lower foothills of the McDowell Mountains. Surface conditions include hard-packed desert trail, gravel and rocky patches, occasional sandy washes, rolling hills and several climbs. Trail surroundings feature saguaro cactus, desert trees along washes, and extended mountain views.
